Four experimental works is first release of instrumental compositions from Rendina, and opens four worlds in music of the present day. Pick a Color uses cards with written instructions in a world music improvisation setting in which each of the performers draw a card. Moon Phases is live recording of a performance that took place at the OSU Urban Arts Space of the a post-minimalist homage to Terry Riley's In C using a motif for each phase of the moon. Surprise Indonesia uses an interactive spatial instrument in which random notes are generated and filtered into chords arranged into adjacent triangles called a Tonnetz or tone network. The chord in which the notes are filtered into depends on the location of the input, which can be taken by motion tracking a color. The piece explores the relationship that exists between sound localization and harmony due to the overtones present in sound and their differences unique to each individual when comparing two ears or a single ear when moving ones head slightly, as the high and low pitch information is randomized, one will tend to want to associate the shifting harmonies with a location. Spectral Music uses pre-recorded sounds combined to give the impression of a howling guitar, though neither voice nor guitar is used and ends with a twelve-tone piece generated by the computer - hopefully the last tone row as the composer puts it.
